Looking southwards across Newcastle Beach. Blue-green water fringed with white. Light sandy beach with dark brown rocks jutting out into the waves at several points along the shoreline. Multi-storey apartment buildings overlook the beach though the headland to the south is clear so far - mostly just parkland.

Stingers at the Canoe Pool. #ocean #beach #bluebottles #NewcastleBeach #NewcastleNSW

Yellow warning sign on a post planted firmly in the sand at the shallow pool next to the ocean baths known as the Canoe Pool. The sea looks a gorgeous blue green with white trim. A person is still swimming in the deeper part of the pool.

The water in a concrete gutter round the side of the Canoe Pool is topped with a dirty scummy foam with clusters of bluebottles (stinging jelly fish) - they're the things that look a bit like bubbles (the colour isn't showing up in all that foam).

Multi-storey apartment buildings overlook a golden sandy surf beach on a cloudy day. Red and yellow surf lifesaving flags are up so beach is safe to swim between them. Few people on the beach or in the water though due to the cooler weather with the threat of rain.

The new skatepark next to Newcastle Beach. Great seeing it get some use every time i go past.

It was under construction for ages (think the first company had major cost overruns - maybe even went bust - so another construction firm ended up finishing it way later than planned).

Will be interesting to see how it lasts in the long term, especially through major storms and big tides. #beach #ocean #skateparks #NewcastleBeach #NewcastleNSW

Beaches were busy this warm public holiday Monday (school holidays too!). Didn't even try to snag a park nearby - parked in town and walked up (about 10mins stroll). #swim #ocean #NewcastleBeach #NewcastleNSW
