Tis the season! #scythe
Scythe card in progress for my upcoming Wayward Dark Lenormand deck.
Scythe boardgame figures.
I painted up the figures from our copy of scythe, and gave them some basing too.
I stuck with the colour schemes of the official artwork to keep them recognisable, and left the base rims as the plastic colour for gameplay.
Today we played a game of #Scythe. I won at a final score of 64 to Shan’s 53. It’s a game that I enjoy but it’s a game that Shan sure does not enjoy at all. The artwork in it is really beautiful though, gotta say.
Not sure what we’ll do next.
I plan to socialize with people in person for two or three days starting tomorrow. We’ll see how my anxiety in that holds up.
Covid test came back negative so I feel safe to go.

I've been playing tabletop games throughout the holidays. Today it is the dieselpunk Scythe. The art is gorgeous, but this game is very complicated and I don't think I like it that much. It's a competitive game rather than a cooperative one, and I feel like I'm floundering. I barely have a grasp on what I'm supposed to do each turn, and the end of the game looks very far away. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/169786/scythe #BoardGames #Scythe #DieselPunk
The problem with big #BoardGames like #GangsOfNightCity, #Scythe, #MageKnight, and #Gloomhaven (et al) is getting a large enough group together to play the game consistently to get past the learning curve so the actual scenarios and storylines can be played. A lot of those big modern games do have "solo play" rules, which is definitely nice, but there's nothing like playing one of those games with a full complement of players. It really changes up the strategies and how the game is played.
But it's definitely hard getting the same group of people together to play the same game for any length of time and long enough to either complete storylines or get comfortable enough with the mechanics to have faster, more interesting games. Definitely a trade-off between rules/board complexity and the average player's replayability quotient. #BoardGameProblems, I guess.
And BTW, if there's anyone out there in the Austin metro area that would like to have a regular meetup - even for just a short time, like say every weekend for a month or two - to play through GONC or any one of the other games mentioned above, please hit me up! I want to get comfortable enough with those games to experience all that they have to offer!
I want to learn how to restore a scythe. I have the tools. I don't have the skills. I received three old scythes as a gift that need some love and hope to restore them to usable. I would much prefer scything to string trimming but the blades are dull and chipped. Winter is long--hopefully longer than my learning curve.
Beautiful Day in Farrellton, Quebec.
I've got some scything to do.
@michaelgemar Yes, I believe a mon and daughter team came up with a way to make it kid friendly that then Jamey at Stonemaier published. This one has no mechs and you do "pie-fights" instead of actual combat. It's pretty loosely tied to #Scythe but I can see how the movement, action selection, and gaining trophies are inspired by the original.
