zum #FungiFriday wieder ein schwefelporling, der mich einfach durch seine enorme größe so beeindruckte dass ich ihn fotografieren musste

der stumpf eines schon vor langer zeit abgesägten sehr großen baums von oben. rechts am rand wächst der fruchtkörper eines pilzes, auch sehr groß, schwefelgelb, flach schüsselförmig, unglatt, wellig, mit radialen rillen und teilweise tiefen einkerbungen und überlappungen. rundherum grüner unterwuchs, giersch, bärlauch und anderes.

#FungiFriday some recent highlights

a young white-gilled mushroom growing between two twigs, its left side being pushed down by the twig it's springing up beneath; inside the central gill, three mites take shelter, while around the whole seen, a dense forest of moss provides a lot to explore

a very weird "Tim Burton" looking mushroom dangling from above over a thick bed of moss; it is most likely dead and curling up, with a black interior and a striped white & pink ring around its edge resembling an endless earthworm

the side of a fallen birch log, with scraps of bark peeling off and curling around, and a number of conk mushrooms with colors and shapes so nearly identical to the peeling bark that at a quick glance it's difficult to tell which is which, a neat visual illusion!

a gorgeous (in my opinion, no bias!) sunbathed surface of an older and dried-out conk mushroom, a soft pastel brown with a smooth flowing textured surface that looks like you could just lay across it and relax in the warmth; zooming in shows subtle tiny cracks across its surface, while sunlight and shade sprinkle the out-of-focus moss in the background

Closeup of a moss speckled Y-shaped twig on the first floor. Coming out the sides are close to 30 blobby, raisin colored mushrooms. They are quite gelatinous and swell with rain. During drier times they crimp up. Each is about the size of a thumb nail.

A barkless branch is on the first floor and has a 6 inch groove taken out of it where small blobby orange yellow jelly mushrooms have attached themselves and are growing. Each mushroom is about the size of a fingertip or smaller.

Slowly but surely, mushroom season is upon us! This photo is from last year, but I can’t wait to explore the forest again this year.

An early (for here, anyway) #FungiFriday for everyone, featuring a frankly unreasonable number of #snails. I don't know why there are so many snails but I'm not about to harsh their vibe.

Two yellow-orange fungi of some type are growing amidst bright green grass. The front fungus has a couple of small snails, but the back fungus is absolutely covered in snails. Over half of it is snails.

Five small mushrooms clustered together. Their caps have radial lines from the gills showing through, and the gills are visible. Beneath them is a conifer sprig on the mossy ground. The light is soft and indistinct, and glows through the mushroom caps.

For #FungiFriday I have a fungus with a face known as a Northern Red Belt (Fomitopsis mounceae).

When you walk in an ancient forest and you feel like someone is watching...

Photo of the fungus growing on an old log. It looks like an ugly face but the best description is from Wikipedia and it reads: Fomitopsis mounceae is typically fan-like in shape, with distinct bands usually brown or red in colour. It can have a resinous, sticky coating. As the conks age, they often become bumpy or warty. The cap is 8–25 centimetres (3–10 in) wide and 5–12 cm (2–4+1⁄2 in) thick at the base. The underside of the conk is typically white or yellow in colour, with 3–6 round pores per millimetre. If broken open, the inside is yellowish, or sometimes woody and brown, with no distinct bands.
