I could watch this film again and again if I wasn’t so devastated afterwards, Elaine May’s existential and heartbreaking masterpiece about friendship and masculinity, Mikey and Nicky. I’m always in awe of her direction and the superb performances by long-time personal friends John Cassavetes and Peter Falk. The film was shot entirely at night and the grain is crazy, but this is New Hollywood, so we don’t care.

Watching the first of #PatrickMcGoohan ‘s guest appearances on #Columbo at @Illuminatus ‘s recommendation.

Of course being a guest star usually means murderer.

By Dawn’s Early Light, military academy commandant doesn’t want the academy to go co-ed. Conveniently, the founder dies in a cannon misfire during the Founder’s Day ceremony.

I’m still amazed Columbo had movie length episodes and was on for so long. They don’t make them like that anymore.

📺 Columbo as played by Peter Falk made his debut in Prescription Murder in February 1968 - pitted against a wife-killer psychiatrist played by Gene Barry.

InstagramSpeckled Band on Instagram: "🩺 Prescription Murder was Columbo’s February 1968 TV movie debut. He’s pitted against Dr Ray Flemming (Gene Barry), a calculating psychiatrist who brutally strangles his wife Carol (Nina Foch) at their luxury penthouse and stages an elaborate charade with his beautiful young lover, actress Joan Hudson (Katherine Justice), to establish his alibi. In some of the most powerful scenes in the show, Columbo spars with cocksure Flemming, who calls the detective a ‘sly little elf’ - and carries out an impromptu psychoanalysis of the Lieutenant (at Columbo’s request). Columbo is still in embryonic form but most of the key ingredients are present and correct, and there’s a brilliant gotcha. The TV movie - which began life as a stage play - was directed by Richard Irving and written by series creators Richard Levinson and William Link. It was watched by 25 million viewers - but fans would have to wait for another three years for the official pilot, Ransom for a Dead Man. www.speckled.band #columbo #peterfalk #television #tv #1960s #60s #genebarry #classic #PoliceDrama"5 likes, 0 comments - speckledbandmusic on March 17, 2025: "🩺 Prescription Murder was Columbo’s February 1968 TV movie debut. ☘️ The Conspirators (Columbo, 1978) was the last episode for a decade. It told the story of a mercurial poet in LA - Joe Devlin (Clive Revill) - who’s working for the IRA. He murders a treacherous gunrunner. The episode was broadcast at a time of escalating IRA activity.
