Brian G Weber PhotographyWork in progress: Helix Nebula is a spectacular planetary nebula, rich in color and texture. This is a little under 3 hours on each narrowband filter, but I'm already liking it. More exposure time should crisp up the details in the core and I'll probably drizzle next time I process. The narrower FOV from the small sensor and monochrome filters are a vast improvement over my OSC capture.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/nebula?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#nebula</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/telescope?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#telescope</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/space?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#space</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/touptek?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#touptek</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/monochrome?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#monochrome</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/pixinsight?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#pixinsight</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/astrophotography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#astrophotography</a>

Sun rising on improved processing

The Sun in Hydrogen-alpha Light.

Monday dawned clear and bright so we set up the hydrogen-alpha (Ha) solar telescope and recorded some image sequences. Today was a dull and cloudy day so we spent some time learning new processing techniques for our solar imaging and were rewarded with our best shot yet. The processing of choice was Solar Toolbox — a script package developed for use in PixInsight software — just the set of tools we were looking for! We’ve a long way to go but we think this picture shows great progress!

Pan Marcin był chory
I leżał w łóżeczku
Wystawił więc Seestara,
By coś tam smażył w ogródeczku...

A) aplikacją do obsługi teleskopu Seestar S50
B) Siril 1.2.6+GraXpert
C) PixInsight z różnymi ustawieniami.

1) Obróbka aplikacją do obsługi teleskopu Seestar
2) Siril+GraXpert
3 i 4) PixInshight + GraXpert (2 wersje)

Czuję, że czeka mnie duży wydatek na PI+dodatki.

Over the past few nights, I’ve been running the RedCat with the ASI2600MC exclusively on IC 443, with the Monkey Head Nebula also in the frame. The nebula is processed in HOO (extract) using the APP RGB Combine process, while the stars were handled separately in pure RGB.

Dates: February 16–19, 2025
Sub-frames:
-Altair Ha Oiii DualBand ULTRA 4nm CERTIFIED CMOS Filter 2": 191×300″ (15h 55′) (gain: 100) at -10°C
-Optolong L-Quad Enhance 2": 13×300″ (1h 5′) (gain: 100) at -10°C
Total Integration: 17h

Calibration Frames:
Darks: 20
Flats: 20
Flat Darks: 20
Bias: 30
Processing followed my usual PixInsight flow, but after a NoiseX Light pass, I focused on TGVDenoise in CIE Lab* mode using an inverted lightness mask (see this guide). Final tweaks to the stars and composite were done in Photoshop. Edited on a BenQ in P3 with final checks in sRGB (P3 shows deeper reds, by the way). #astronomy #astrophotography #space #deepspace #pixinsight

Here’s the result so far:

Had a rare clear night yesterday.. well part of it anyway, it was rudely interrupted by a heavy snowfall, but managed to bag 4 hours of exposure for the Flaming Star and Tadpoles Nebulae. First time processing with Pixinsight, I have to say it's quite overwhelming at first but it is quite powerful as a tool. I'm enjoying the generous 45 day free trial for the moment but I'm serously considering buying it. Many thanks to Lukomatico's youtube channel for short and to the point tutorials!

Before I collected the last data of the Elephant's Trunk this month, I slewed to the Ring Nebula before it got fully dark out and imaged it for 17 minutes with the L-eNhance filter. It was considerably smaller than I thought it was going to be at 700mm of focal length, but BlurXTerminator and the 1.1"/pixel resolution came in clutch and allowed me to crop the image substantially to reveal the Ring up close.

34x30s lights (17 minutes), flats, biases stacked and edited in PixInsight.
