This road trip has had a side quest of me finding sloppy-joe type meals at family diners. Komfort Kitchen in Brandon MB was a high contender with a pulled-beef BBQ burger, on a locally produced bun. Cafe 4U in Battleford SK had high marks with Teppanyaki Beef.
But upon returning the rental car, we stopped at the Red Goose diner in Hazeldean, Edmonton AB. Bulgogi sandwich for the winner!

Hey #yegfood, The Butchery by RGE RD has a dill crème fraiche, which pairs perfectly with their perogies
The usual Saturday evening band practice (or beer drinking complain about your job club) was altered a bit last night.
It was the drummers 50th birthday celebration, and so RGE RD was booked for a tasting menu evening. What a fantastic facility for locally sourced ingredients presented in a very fancy chef-y way. I took the wine pairing option, which was an experience in itself.
It's certainly a special occasion type of place, but can't recommend it highly enough.

My wonderful partner got me a wonderful-looking birthday cake from Sugared & Spiced (aka @dirklancer) and I'm very excited to eat it.
I remember 30+ years ago, living in Norwood being a house husband with a toddler. We were within walking (stroller) distance of the Italian Centre, and also Sprucewood Library, where I found a wonderful cookbook section.
I found a recipe for a basic bolognese sauce, which was within our budget.
I was dubious of the recipe providing a full flavour experience, but upon frying up finely chopped carrots and celery in olive oil, I could not believe how something so simple could be so good.
