"When Trump and his administration push for the Confederacy and try to disappear the diverse past, they are delivering on the political primal scream that the right emitted after Obama won.

It’s doubtful that Trump will succeed in erasing the country’s collective memory, but like the men who tried to keep chattel slavery legal, Republicans are willing to give their crusade one last Confederate try."

Yesterday, in a thread I pointed to David Pepper stating that the problem is not just Trump, but that Trump is enacting authoritarian fantasies Republicans have cherished for over half a century.

Trump did not invent the authoritarian dreams of the Republican voter base. They have been there all along. The Republican voter base is every bit as much of the problem as Trump is.

The Cause · The Trump regime had a 54-year (and a 76-day) head startBy L O L G O P
William Lindsey :toad:

Many of us want to sanewash our own recent history, which some of us remember and refuse to forget. The reason the federal government is in Musk-Trump's sights as a target, the reason they're attacking and demolishing it, is that the word "federal" has stuck in the craw of white Southern voters since the Democrats enacted federal legislation to advance civil rights for people of color in the 1960s.

/4

When the federal government pushed desegregation and integration of public schools, white Southerners responded by tearing everything up rather than share with people of color.

/5

They boycotted integrated public schools, defunded schools, attacked federal involvement in promoting public education, opened separate whites-only church-run academies, shut down public institutions like swimming pools rather than see Black and white citizens share them.

/6

There's a direct line to this selfish, hateful, destructive behavior in response to civil rights advances brought to us by Democrats, and what Trump is doing today. We can choose to pretend that line is not there, and that this history did not happen.

But I'm old enough to remember it. I lived through it. And as long as I'm alive, I'll keep telling you that it happened and needs to be faced.

@wdlindsy

Yeah, I think those of us who lived through the civil rights era are not surprised by any of this at all.

@wdlindsy

if republicans and maga want resegregation

then we need companies and public spaces only for POC, Women and LGBTQ+ people that exclude white men and straight people

and wait for them to howl "NOT LIKE THAT"

Bradley, a loud & proud racist Bircher, passed away in 1965 and left behind the Bradley Foundation dedicated to disenfranchisement & the overturn of the voting rights act.

They bought corrupt Supreme Court Justices until they accomplished that goal.

They funded a coup.

Bradley didn't believe women, immigrants, LGBTQ, non-whites, non-Christians, or POC are "real Americans"
