@Axiom Have fun with the research. Native plants are good for the planet! The local pollinators are looking for quality native plant meals from spring to fall. Fiber sprouts. Ha ha. #nativeplants, #growyourown.
I have tried a few times to photograph the flowers of thin leaf huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum), but things happened. Today I was successful at catching an image or two. The flowers are very delicate and open for a day or two before they drop, while the berry takes a few months to ripen.

One of my favorite flowers, the very ephemeral bloodroot, Sanginaria canadensis has made its appearance. Native to most of the eastern half of the US and southern Canada, it’s an early spring pollen and nectar source for native pollinators. The seeds are dispersed by ants.

This photo is exciting to me. I bought this Pacific crabapple (Malus fusca) 5 years ago. It did not bloom...and then yesterday I saw flower buds all over it!
My daughter was all agog too.

Evergreen huckleberries (Vaccinium ovatum) are blooming. This hardy native is evergreen, and used by wise people for hedges. Its blue huckleberries are very small but usually abundant, and tasty!

I wanted to add a few more trees. I've lost 2 beautiful sugar maples in the last few years. I've replaced them with red maples, but it's going to be a while until they're 50' tall. Got some pawpaw seedlings and persimmon seedlings. Native fruits from my area. I have a mulberry and crabapple for other native fruits. Next are some evergreen trees for a windbreak. #gardening #trees #nativeplants
