A cluster of bright orange honeysuckle flowers looks like a starburst from its green round bract. The flowers are like long trumpets tipped with 5 petals. The anthers poke out, full of pollen grains. The pistil, growing amidst the anthers, has a green tip.

Orange honeysuckle is also called trumpet honeysuckle.

Vine maple (Acer circinatum) is closely related to Japanese maple and has similar flowers.

A cluster of small vine maple flowers blooms above some green and pink new leaves in a woodsy understory. The flowers have 5 red fuzzy sepals, small white petals, yellow anthers and a long greenish pistil. The leaves are slightly fuzzy as well, and are palmately lobed, with 7 to 11 lobes.

Looking up at the flower panicles on a horse chestnut tree in the park. The tree is full of panicles of white flowers The 5 petaled flowers start out light green, then brighten to white with yellow spots at the base of the top two petals, and later these spots turn bright pink. The green leaves of the tree obscure some of the panicles. The leaves are composite and palmate with 5 to 7 leaflets joined at the top of the leaf stem. In this shot, if you expand it, you can see the trunk of the tree as well as those of a couple of trees behind it.
Horse chestnuts are poisonous to most animal except squirrels. Interestingly (to me at least!) horse chestnuts, and their cousin the American buckeye, are related to maples, whereas edible chestnuts are related to oaks.

More wild berries! Thimbleberries (Rubus parviflorus), the best wild berries I've ever tasted, look like they'll be abundant this year.

Thimbleberry plants are thornless. This photo shows two white five petaled flowers with the yellow anthers surrounding the yellow pistils. The petals look like crinkly white sails. There are a couple of fuzzy flower buds getting ready to open. The green palmate leaves surrounding the flowers are large, often bigger than adult hands, and are velvety and soft. The berries that come in fall are small, dark red, very soft and fragile, and exquisitely delicious.

A bush of Chinese ( R. mutabilis) roses is full of buds and open blooms. The 5 petaled, slightly raggedy, pink to yellow roses are a delight from spring to fall. This bush is about 8 feet tall, and full of oval green leaves, and is climbing up a white fence.

A branch full of peachy-orange azaleas graces the neighbor's yard. The color of the stamen and pistil stems in the 5 petaled flowers is so similar as too be invisible, making the anther heads pop out in yellow. There are more bloom covered branches in the background.

Iceland poppies pop with their bright yellow against the darker leaves in our garden. This is the first year I have seen them spreading out from their initial clump.

A branch of madrone ends with a cluster of racemes full of white urn shaped flowers. The leaves of the tree are oval, dark green, and leathery. If you look closely, the flowers eack look like pearly old fashioned lampshades. The scent is light and mildly like honey.

A young Pacific madrone tree sits by the edge of the park densely covered with dark green leaves and flowers all the way down to the ground. The lawn beneath is bright green and dotted with yellow dandelions.

Raindrops are caught on the surface the alternate, bright green, oval leaves on drooping branches of Solomon's seal. The pendant tips of the branches have pairs of white flower buds tipped with dark green. These are shaped like oval drop earrings.

Fringecup flowers are opening in our garden. They're shaped like bells with very feathery hectic petals curling up, away from the flower cup. They grow on long stalks, which stand tall above a mound of bright green, rounded and lobed leaves. They're easy to spot when growing wild in the woods and stream shores.

Pacific dogwoods (Cornus nuttallii) grow very tall. It is a challenge to photograph the flowers which are up to 60 feet above. This tree keeled over, with its roots still OK, so I got a chance to take a picture

Four Pacific dogwood flowers grow among the tree's light green lanceolate leaves. The four petals (actually bracts) are white with pink at the tips. The small clump of green buds in the middle of the flowers are the real flowers waiting to open. Then a few red berries will succeed the flowers, and will probably make some birds a nice meal.

A park lawn mower is busily grooming the youth baseball/softball fields in Ravenna Park. The grass is bright spring green. There are cottonwood and mapple trees surrounding the field. The baseball diamond is off to the left, waiting for the weekend influx of junior sluggers.
