Now we have a press release from Toshiba and Orange announcing the world’s first commercial #quantum safe network offering, combining #QKD and #PQC. Haven’t been able to read the tech specs yet but it’s now available in the Paris metro area, and already has a financial services customer.

The pace of innovation in this space is constantly accelerating.

UK cybersecurity agency National Cyber Security Centre is recommending that organisations start replacing existing asymmetric public key cryptosystems with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) alternatives to defend themselves against quantum computers

I thought sure I had shared this in December, but I can't find it - researchers at Northwestern University demonstrated for the first time ever #QKD (quantum key distribution; in this case the entanglement-based flavor, as opposed to the prepare & measure flavor) traffic over a fiber optic cable also carrying live Internet traffic, proving there's a path towards quantum and classical networks sharing a unified physical infrastructure. This will make adoption *MUCH* easier than having to roll out dedicated infrastructure for the #quantum Internet. news.northwestern.edu/stories/

somehow I think I missed this announcement back in October: China is launching two or three #quantum communications satellites into LEO this year. The satellites build upon the pioneering Mozi satellite that China launched in 2016 to test #QKD and entanglement in space.

🎓 Ready to start your #Quantum learning journey?

The first learning units in our new #QuantumTech #eAcademy are out, including an intro block on Quantum Algebra and units on IBM Qiskit and ETSI standard key exchange APIs!

And many more units are in the works, covering #QuantumCommunications, #QuantumComputing, #QKD, simulation, resources, sensing and metrology, standardisation.

Use our interactive metro map to access units and to get an overview of what’s yet to come: wiki.geant.org/display/NETDEV/

I knew that #NSA wasn't big on Quantum Key Distribution, but it was news to me that #QKD as an encryption system class would not be approved for any US national security systems:

“NSA will not approve the use of that class. You know, the quantum key distribution, that class of key exchange for any national security systems.”

and LO, the YouTube playlist of all the recorded talks has dropped!! Folks, this is WAY better than reading through my livestream below; in particular I urge you to check out talks 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11 (my overall faves) - but all of these are really good (and *mostly* accessible to the lay person, of which I am one :)) Huge thanks to Dr. Farbod Khoshnoud from Caltech as the overall organizer of this shindig; I can't wait for next year.

— IEEE Spectrum

“People can’t predict theoretically that these PQC algorithms won’t be broken one day,” Finke says. “On the other hand, QKD—there are theoretical arguments based on quantum physics that you can’t break a QKD network.”
