But I don't like the word "transcribing." There's no one-to-one mapping between any spoken language and any <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/SignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignLanguage</span></a>. You were doing translation!</p>
Elio Campitelli<p>This is clearly written by someone with experience learning or teaching <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignLanguage</span></a>. My experience at first was just "transcribing" Spanish speech to sign word for word. It's hard to get the hang of the new grammar, using non manual gestures and managing space. </p><p><a href="https://www.runawaytothestars.com/comic/rtts-page-192/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">runawaytothestars.com/comic/rt</span><span class="invisible">ts-page-192/</span></a></p>

Carlos SolísI wonder if <a href="https://hub.azkware.net/search?tag=SignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignLanguage</span></a> has a concept of meter and rhyme like verbal languages do, and if so, would it be possible to accurately translate a poem from a verbal language and a sign language while keeping the cadence somehow?
Marc Schulder<p>The impact in the German educational system for the deaf also directly affected language use. To investigate this, the DGS Corpus project made sure to include signers of all ages (and regions). This allows us to look into how factors such as vocabulary, signing speed and mixing of LBG (signed German, i.e. word for word translations that loan only signs from DGS but not most grammar) have changed over time and as educational conditions changed.<br>2/2</p><p> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/SignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignLanguage</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/GermanSignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GermanSignLanguage</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Deaf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Deaf</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Geb%C3%A4rdensprache" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gebärdensprache</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/DeutscheGeb%C3%A4rdensprache" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DeutscheGebärdensprache</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Geh%C3%B6rlos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gehörlos</span></a></p>
Marc Schulder<p>The city of Hamburg has officially apologised for the suffering that the German educational system has caused deaf people. Up until the 1990s, use of sign language was systematically suppressed, in the misguided assumption that this would help deaf people focus on learning to lip read and speak German. Instead, this language deprivation, for a long while coupled with corporeal punishment for underperforming, resulted in dismal school experiences for many deaf people as well as low educational levels, leading to severely limited career options.<br>The reaction of the Hamburg city and federal state government follows years of campaigning by victims to have their plight acknowledged. Hamburg has now vowed to push for recognition and reparations at the national level.</p><p>1/2</p><p><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/SignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignLanguage</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/GermanSignLanguage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GermanSignLanguage</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Deaf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Deaf</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Geb%C3%A4rdensprache" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gebärdensprache</span></a><br><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/DeutscheGeb%C3%A4rdensprache" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DeutscheGebärdensprache</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Geh%C3%B6rlos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gehörlos</span></a></p><p>Edit: typo</p><p>German news article: <a href="https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/hamburg/buergerschaft-leid-von-gehoerlosen-soll-anerkannt-werden,gehoerlose-100.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ndr.de/nachrichten/hamburg/bue</span><span class="invisible">rgerschaft-leid-von-gehoerlosen-soll-anerkannt-werden,gehoerlose-100.html</span></a></p>
