Slewfoot by Brom was a great listen - bewitching in the best sense of the word. The brutality of the Puritans is hard to digest, but knowing that it really happened that way makes it even more enraging. "Bloom" could have been a sweet sapphic love story, but Delilah S. Dawson makes sure it comes with a fair share of queasiness and tension about where this is heading. Short and easy to devour on a quiet afternoon.

Charlotte McConaghy's "Migrations" is one of my all-time faves - so I had high expectations for "Wild Dark Shore". And what shall I say? She did it again. Gorgeous writing with a tender, powerful and heart-wrenching story. Gave me all the feels and wrecked me in the best possible way.

"The Starving Saints" by Caitlin Starling wasn't what I expected it would be - but I still wasn't disappointed by this enticing, fast-paced, vivid story of false idols and (CW) cannibalism. The second half gets a bit too trippy for my taste and I feel it doesn't quite tie up all lose ends. But it's an exciting ride nevertheless. Up until the midway point, "Annie Bot" by Sierra Greer was excellent - insightful, provacative and told from a fresh angle. What is it that makes us human? "I Who Have Never Known Men" by Jacqueline Harpman tackles this question in a thought-provoking, yet devastating way. It isn't high in suspense and action, but instead rather quiet and reflective. Totally knocked me off my feet.
