"Maybe we will drown or burn or starve one day, but until then we get to choose if we’ll add to that destruction or if we will care for each other"

Charlotte McConaghy's "Migrations" is one of my all-time faves - so I had high expectations for "Wild Dark Shore". And what shall I say? She did it again. Gorgeous writing with a tender, powerful and heart-wrenching story. Gave me all the feels and wrecked me in the best possible way.

"It's eat or be eaten"

"The Starving Saints" by Caitlin Starling wasn't what I expected it would be - but I still wasn't disappointed by this enticing, fast-paced, vivid story of false idols and (CW) cannibalism. The second half gets a bit too trippy for my taste and I feel it doesn't quite tie up all lose ends. But it's an exciting ride nevertheless. I also liked the narration of the audiobook. @bookstodon #WeekendRead #bookstodon #amreading #iamreading #frauenlesen

What is it that makes us human? "I Who Have Never Known Men" by Jacqueline Harpman tackles this question in a thought-provoking, yet devastating way. It isn't high in suspense and action, but instead rather quiet and reflective. Totally knocked me off my feet.

"I was forced to acknowledge too late, much too late, that I too had loved, that I was capable of suffering, and that I was human after all."

"The biggest mystery is not why arXiv succeeded. Rather, it’s how it wasn’t killed by vested interests intent on protecting traditional academic publishing."

Very interesting interview profile of Paul Ginsparg in WIRED narrating the history of arXiv:
