@RandamuMaki to me it's more like the corporate perspective of "#Buying" vs. "All-inclusive #leasing" for fleet vehicles because the former one may save money nongtern but the latter can be more flexible and doesn't require having 4-6 digits expenses being approved through the procurement chain.
- After all they'd either acquire an asset they'd have to care for vs. subscribing to a service that also does as much of the paperwork they legally can (OFC charging for the "convenience")...
And yes I've been in companies where it was easier to spend €10k on renting a server than spending more than €1k in purchases because a monthly-cancellable leasing was easier to get approved than a purchase due to accounting and tax writeoffs.
- THIS is why a lot of #Startups are #MoneyBurningParties because they can just blow $$$$$$ on #aws (effectively paying for their own #IndustrialEspionage!) than exercising actual ownership...
