It’s raining here this morning. And yesterday, and the day before. The deep driving kind of rain, where the gutters have given up and overflow with loud drip-plopping streams hitting the puddle holes below. Tufts of new grass bends over sodden and deeper green each day. The kind of rain that repairs the parched garden beds, pulls the worms out, sends the salamanders scurrying. The kind of rain that eases the rocks out of hillsides, and lets lose rivers of mud onto the sides of the highway. The heavy grey mist clings to the mountain sides, hanging on to the trees, even after the sun breaks through. This rain is life sustaining.
