'Women are less likely to receive CPR than men.'

"You don’t need to remove someone’s bra to perform CPR. But you may need to if a defibrillator is required.
A defibrillator is a device that applies an electric charge to restore the heartbeat. A bra with an underwire could cause a slight burn to the skin when the debrillator’s pads apply the electric charge. But if you can’t remove the bra, don’t let it delay care."

The ConversationWomen are less likely to receive CPR than men. Training on manikins with breasts could helpHeart-related diseases are the leading cause of death for women worldwide. But bystanders are less likely to intervene to perform CPR on a woman than a man.

So you're walking somewhere in England. Suddenly, your friend clutches his chest and drops to the ground. He's having a heart attack. But BOTH of your phones are out of batteries. But what luck! You see an old tyme red phone booth a 100 meters away. But when you get there, you see it's been decommissioned, and you can't call for help. But THEN, what luck!! The phone booth is now a defibrillator!! You run back, and drag your friend 100 meters to the giant defibrillator, only to discover the #defibrillator is not the booth, but actually a smaller device INSIDE the old phone booth. It would have been nice if it could be BOTH a telephone AND a defibrillator, but oh well.

Anyway, #LongStoryShort -- it all works out. Your friend survives. And a familiar cherished old landmark has found a new purpose, not as a defibrillator, but rather, as a defibrillator container thing.

I hope it gives enough of a lead to anyone who has reason to need this info.

"Placing #defibrillator pads on the chest and back, rather than the usual method of putting two on the chest, increases the odds of surviving an out-of-hospital #CardiacArrest by more than two-and-a-half times."

“... you want energy that goes from one pad to the other through the heart,” said Mohamud Daya, MD, professor of EM at the OHSU School of Medicine & corresponding author of the study."

Has a phone call from a close friend earlier.

Last week he said he couldn't meet up as we usually do on a Saturday.

He called this evening & said why.

He had a heart attack on Friday & only just got home today.

#wtf if I knew I'd have visited him if I knew.

He's ok but it's got me thinking...

With what @revk mentioned recently on why he sponsored a defibrillator, I think we should push more getting them around more.

We should get more #defibrillator's out there

Oaaarrrr!

Was ein haarsträubender Wildwuchs im Bereich #Defibrillator en bzw. #AED Kartierung doch in DE herrscht!

This is so messed up. Some guy suffered a #heartattack right outside the de Young Museum in #SanFrancisco. The guy's friend recognized that he was having a heart attack and ran into the #museum looking for their #defibrillator. Museum staff refused to let him borrow it, and as a result the man died. Now, the museum is trying to re-write history with a self-serving story justifying their staff's refusal to help. Fuck the #deYoungMuseun and their evil staff.

Saw an interesting new product recently: CellAED

cellaed.io/uk

A personal #defibrillator, at a reasonable price.

Their FAQ says:
"Will I need to connect my CellAED to a network?
If cellular coverage is available, your CellAED will automatically connect to the network for regular device status updates...."

Their customer support confirms:
"Please be advised that you cannot disconnect or switch off the device's connectivity feature"

That's a hard NO! from us then.

#FuneralFactFriday: I missed posting this yesterday because, uhhh newborn kittens, obvs. However, today is National Battery Day, which brings me to this lesson: pacemaker batteries explode it cremated!

Pacemakers must be removed from bodies prior to cremation because their batteries will explode (damaging the chamber and/or injuring the operator).

Pacemakers are easily removed by funeral staff and can be recycled, refurbished, and sanitized. Since the FDA prohibits reuse in the USA, they can either be implanted in dogs or sent to impoverished countries.
