So my kid getting into #rockhounding means that I'm starting to look at getting a rock #tumbler, and thinking I might #DIY with junk I've got around. But the search results that I'm finding with DDG are all either videos, very incomplete instructions, or clearly AI generated.

So if you've built one or just have one, what advice do you have? How fast should it rotate? Can I get away with a 36oz peanut butter jar for the drum? Can I really use sand instead of buying special grit?

My son, the CS major, helps me program my #linux based #raspberrypi pool controller. We use #nodered because it gives a really nice little dashboard and controls all the GPIOs well.

I was looking into the code and spotted this lovely little bit of type coercion. 😃 I can completely relate to what kind of mood he was in when he probably found some stupid bug because it was dealing with the letter "0" instead of the number 0.

The glider winglets have been sanded and buffed/polished...well enough.

I did not use the polishing machine. These are small parts and somewhat fragile, so I buffed by hand.

The winglets have electrical connections (spring loaded car door jamb connectors, lol!) and a molded receptacle for these nav/position/strobe lights:

The 2nd and 3rd photos show a progression from ugly runs and drips...to a scraped surface that is almost ready for sanding.

I did my first Mouser Electronics order in quite a while. I bought some special Pots to fix and restore my original, American made Mackie 1202. It's been a back-burner project for quite some time.

I also paid my first Tariff that I'm aware of. They had a line-item for it. It wasn't a huge order and the estimated Tariff was about $2.50, but still...

FUCK THE CHEETOH.

The average Apple iphone is supported for 7 years, & a minimum of 5 years after the product is discontinued, which is better than androids. Imagine if your car was not supported after 7 years. I manage to keep a 2012 airbook useful, nothing wrong with the hardware, but in the software world its days are numbered. I also manage to keep a 2003 car running.

I've been looking into tinkering with old game boys and stuff and found this: kickstarter.com/projects/jamet

Amazing, a raspberry pi zero in a GBC shell 😍

It's reportedly in fulfillment phase, and a couple days ago I read on its website (reboi.io) that additional preorders are available outside of the finished kickstarter campaign. There was no preorder link on the website then.

Today, reboi.io is giving 403.
Does anyone know what's up?

Hackaday: The Evertop: A Low-Power, Off-Grid Solar Gem. “Designed by [ericjenott], hacker with a love for old-school computing and survivalist flair, this machine emulates 1980s PCs, runs DOS, Windows 3.0, and even MINIX, and stays powered for hundreds of hours. It has a built-in solar panel and 20,000mAh of battery, basically making it an old-school dream in a new-school shell.”

Defencestration.

Most of the fence posts pulled out easily, with a few exceptions. The fence itself however was ingrown like a bad toenail. I had to pull really hard and then clear a bunch of soil, roots and weeds off the bottom.

A young maple (those really like to self-seed around here) and some thorny monstrosity that had incorporated several fence links got extracted, too.

Now there's room to expand the garden with some no-dig beds :)
