Escape to the mountains:

"In 2002 three plants were found clinging on to an inaccessible cliff edge not far from its original location in Bethesda. This group of plants remain the only ones known to exist in the wild and are now well protected and safe from sheep, and their numbers have increased to six plants. To add to their conservation, seed collected from them has been successfully cultivated into fully grown plants, flourishing at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (Gardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru) in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, where they can be seen in flower."
Regret to advise that, as the heather is now beginning to erupt into flower on the slopes of Eryri, we're past midsummer and you'd better hurry up in getting your outside work done!

A small and unique, angular design of sheepfold near Cwmstradllyn, north Wales.
“The wool acts like a membrane to separate the path stone from the peat so it doesn’t sink. It’s a more eco-friendly alternative to using plastic membranes."

Glorious views across to Y Rhinogydd.
this morning's #Moelwyns walk ascended into the clouds to find ghosts of our industrial heritage looming all around like shrouded memories yet never quite solidifying... such low visibility was quite disorientating

Latest outing:
Parting panorama after a 7km quick hike last evening. Won't be long before I'm back.
Reservoir is drying up pretty quickly for the time of year.
A fabulous day up southern Eryri this afternoon. I saw nobody at all in 5 hours. But I did find an unrecorded fossilised beach!
The lake is lowering quickly - and this is a wet place. An old farmstead, once known as 'Cwm y Fedw Ddu', has emerged above the waters now.
bluebells popping through the parched grass with the #Moelwyns & distant Stwlan Dam as a backdrop under a pure blue cloudless sky - I soon retreated into the shaded woodlands

Had a long weekend in southern #Eryri and tried to squeeze in some training (i.e. drag people up mountains with me).
- Climbed Aran Fawddwy from Cwm Cywarch, pleased with this as it was the only "Welsh Major"/P600 peak I didn't climb last year
- Did a social run in the hills around Machynlleth, some good climbing/descending practice (not technically Eryri, but adjacent)
- Had an easy day walking around Harlech, paddling in the sea, with views of Yr Wyddfa from the castle battlements
- Hiked around Rhinog Fawr, but didn't summit as the ascent was a bit scrambly and some of the party weren't confident reversing it. Will come back for it!
hot'n'hazy #Moelwyns preside over the valleys bursting with vibrant greenery that wasn't there a few days ago...

Happy Easter! This year, if you're taking a break in Eryri, don't be one of the very many idiots who throws their picnic waste on the ground in the expectation it will miraculously vanish of its own accord.
Respect the environment. Respect Wales.
