Chantal Akerman:
« Godard m'a donné de l'énergie et les formalistes m'ont libérée. »
(C'est Pierrot le Fou de Jean-Luc Godard (1965) qui provoque sa vocation.)
I've watched one half of A Bout de Souffle and while it starts of quite entertaining, it really starts to drag with the characters just saying stuff in pointless scenes.
I'm not even sure what the plot is. There's some crimes something or other, some money or something.
A policeman was killed and he wants to sleep with the main woman character ...
I would be alright if there wasn't all the pointless filler in between.

What interests me about #cinema is really what THESE people, at THIS point in their history, chose to risk, or cajoled, hard investor dollars to earnestly tell me THIS story, even when they only had THIS budget to do it, but damn it, did it anyway. For me, this is the inescapable TRUTH #Godard talks about as "Cinema is Truth, 24 frames per second."
The only known script of Godard’s Breathless is to be auctioned online.
The only known script for Jean-Luc Godard’s seminal New Wave film Breathless (À Bout de Souffle) will be auctioned later this year.
About 70 pages of director’s handwritten notes for the New Wave classic were found after more than 60 years.

#art #history: 'he drove me a bit crazy.' #art/#history: don't call her godard's muse. don't. call. her. godard's. muse. don't. do not.
anna karina (born #otd in 1940) professed to feeling honoured & touched when people referred to her as the m-word - & she remained grateful to JLG for trusting her with the roles he wrote with her in mind, even if they ceased speaking once their relationship ended. one thing's sure: they did forge pure magic - TOGETHER.

Jean-Luc Godard (1930 - 2022)
Shaking things up for seven decades pretty much. Genius. Troublemaker. Often baffling. Always demanded you stop and take notice.
