#Leon_Trotsky was highly critical of the #Stalinist_USSR for suppressing #Democracy and the lack of adequate coherent #EconomicPlanning. :skp904:

In Results and Prospects, written in 1906, #Trotsky outlines his theory in detail, arguing: "History does not repeat itself. However much one may compare the #RussianRevolution with the Great French Revolution, the former can never be transformed into a repetition of the latter."
In the #FrenchRevolution of 1789, France experienced what Marxists called a "bourgeois-democratic revolution"—a regime was established wherein the bourgeoisie overthrew the existing French feudalistic system. The bourgeoisie then moved towards establishing a regime of #DemocraticParliamentaryInstitutions.

However, while democratic rights were extended to the bourgeoisie, they were not generally extended to a universal franchise. The freedom for workers to organize unions or to strike was not achieved without considerable struggle.

Trotsky argues that because a majority of the branches of industry in Russia originated under the direct influence of government measures—sometimes with the help of government subsidies—the capitalist class was again tied to the ruling elite. The capitalist class was subservient to European capital.

*** 21st century - What has changed is the capitalist class has divided, unequally, creating Hyper-Capitalism. Hyper-Capitalists (#Billionaires and #Trillionaires) influence elections (Mass Media and Campaign Fund Raising), so that the political class become subservient to them. In time, they become directively and publically involved in government. #HyperCaptitalists #HyperCapitalism

20 Lessons from the 20th Century About How to Defend #Democracy from #Authoritarianism, According to Yale #Historian #TimothySnyder

in History | January 20th, 2017

"Timothy Snyder, Housum Professor of History at Yale University, is one of the foremost scholars in the U.S. and Europe on the rise and fall of #totalitarianism during the 1930s and 40s. Among his long list of appointments and publications, he has won multiple awards for his recent international bestsellers '#Bloodlands: Europe between #Hitler and #Stalin' and last year’s 'Black Earth: The #Holocaust as History and Warning.' That book in part makes the argument that #Nazism wasn’t only a #German #nationalist movement but had global #colonialist origins—in #Russia, #Africa, and in the #UnitedStates, the nation that pioneered so many methods of human extermination, #racist #dehumanization, and ideologically-justified #LandGrabs.

"The hyper-#capitalism portrayed in the U.S.—even during the Depression—Snyder writes, fueled Hitler’s imagination, such that he promised Germans 'a life comparable to that of the American people,' whose 'racially pure and uncorrupted' German population he described as 'world class.' Snyder describes Hitler’s ideology as a myth of racialist struggle in which 'there are really no values in the world except for the stark reality that we are born in order to take things from other people.' Or as we often hear these days, that acting in accordance with this principle is the 'smart' thing to do. Like many far right figures before and after, Hitler aimed to restore a state of nature that for him was a perpetual state of race war for imperial dominance."

There is the well-known saying "if you only have a hammer, then everything looks like a nail".

We find this quite obvious, and think people who fall for this anti-pattern are foolish.

Yet here we are in our #hypercapitalism-encased little global world, measuring *everything*, all value, every transaction in monetary terms.

How is that not the bluntest, dumbest hammer, and most ignorant way to misperceive value of life?

The biggest #challenge of the #SocialWeb is that people aren't able to collaborate at scale unless under money-driven artificial #organization structures, based on hierarchy, authority and power dynamics.

In #grassroots movements we think we found a better way, but we haven't. We just found the power of "loose sand" to - at most - sting in the bleary eyes of #Hypercapitalism. Not in the eyes of the crazed billionaires who are the engine of this vile system. They are laughing them bro-balls out.

"Oh yeah.. Bob Marlie, you say? Oh, right. Yea yea, a singer was it not? We have 2 albums on the chap, one from 1996 and 2015, and then 2 singles from 2021 and 2023 respectively. What do you say? Lyrics missing? Yea yea, it is an old singer. Dead, ya know.."

#Wikipedia keeps memory of Bob Marley so that no #Newspeak bullshit dystopia may erase him from history.

@tasket yes and no, depending how you interpret the diagram. It is obviously a gross simplification.

But in the top triangle of #Hypercapitalism, yes we effectively see tech so much as progress, praying to the false gods of #DigitalTransformation all the time (the name itself implies adaptation to tech). And for wicked problems in society we throw more tech at it, like the #AI madness.

In the bottom triangle of #Neoconsciensism technology is merely supportive to people and society at large.

@podo indeed.

I'm all for the #scientific method. But I was just thinking how this chocolate headline in #TheGuardian gives like an armchair reassuring voice of interesting #science work.. that still has one or two decades to go before it seeps its way into actual practice in #society.

And that seeping follows the influences of #hypercapitalism. In one or two decades #fascism might have long been the only still known newspeak for how fast mad tech disruptions increase overall skynet potential.

First Blood was popular. And now First Truth internet search.

Same as Rambo wasn't real, yet made many people want to kill other people violently. Now DuckDuckGo's basic Truth isn't real, as first search result is an alternative fact. Is violence involved too? Killing society.

Snapshot shows DDG's search result explains the word "plaid" as "financial technology company that enables users to connect their bank.." 🤯

Vice has free reign as #truth is destroyed.

We MUST be #Plainspeaking
We MUST use #CommonSense
We MUST restore #Reality

If you think you can slay the beast of #hypercapitalism from inside the beast's stomach, then good luck with your #activism. I will do something positive and uplifting till the end of days, rather than engage in a lost fight.

We might do something else, and try activate 7 billion people to collaborate a tad more productively, for instance. Not *within* a system that is designed to not let that happen at all cost, though.

But first, let's not rhyme with history, please.
Can #mankind even learn?

@mysteriarch

Extinction rebellion think so. A group most folks either forgot or annoys them.

It can spark violent events to enact radical change. To uncertain outcomes and not to my knowledge (but I'm no historian) likely to lead to a whole alternative system. Certain not I expect leading to end of #hypercapitalism. It just continues on the other side of the revolution.

Sacrifice #activism can only form the tip of the spear and the whole solution behind it is momentum for sustainable change.

Yes.. I was just musing a bit on the terms. There's wordplay in #Regrowth in that it also means starting anew i.e. create a wholly alternative system to that of world-destroying #Hypercapitalism

The #capitalism seed sprouted a horrendous meat-eating fungus. Need to replant a new organic system to take over and collectively kindle a seedling to regrow #humanity into healthy #sustainability-first direction. So there's a #future for mankind, and not #extinction.

"Commercial science" is a good term to denounce this shady practice that withholds knowledge and wisdom discovered with public money in order to use it for #HyperCapitalism and its greed fests.
