Today I am doing my best.
So are you.
Covered in ice packs, sitting on a heating pad, and bathing in menthol gives one a certain clarity.
Love yourself. Soothe yourself. Heal yourself. Protect yourself.
First.
FIRST.
If you need help, let me know.

When you luck-out in the statistics, it can be truly terrible for you. This is hard to read. Poor bloke; did the right things, but the universe kicked him in the head, & worse.

A small town in rural Ohio is producing #EnrichedUranium again. Here's why that matters
The Ohio Newsroom | By Erin Gottsacker
Published April 18, 2024
"When Centrus Energy flipped three switches at its new plant last fall, it was a new beginning for an industry that had been dormant for more than a decade in #Ohio: #UraniumEnrichment.
"As the U.S. looks to meet its clean energy [sic] goals, there’s increasing demand for the resource, which is necessary for nuclear power generation.
"For years, the U.S. didn’t have a American-owned source of enriched uranium. (A subsidiary of #Urenco enriches #uranium in #NewMexico, but it's owned by a conglomeration of foreign governments and European-based businesses.) Now, #CentrusEnergy is attempting to fill in the gap. And it’s doing that at a plant in #PiketonOhio.
[...]
"Some locals aren’t thrilled. One group worries about the industry’s connection to #NuclearWeapons. Others fear the waste from the plant could #contaminate the surrounding #environment. The specter of the last time #uranium was being enriched in Piketon looms large: many former plant workers get federal compensation because of illnesses they sustained as a result of exposure to #toxic and #radioactive materials.
"'I feel violated,' said Vina Colley, a former worker at the #PortsmouthGaseousDiffusionPlant. 'They said I would get more radiation by getting on the plane than working out here.'
"In the time since she worked at the plant, she’s battled #beryllium disease, #ChronicBronchitis, #COPD, #neuropathy and #HeartFailure."
Just a happy guy who greeted me this morning; even on my bad pain days, he always brightens them. I'd be lost without you, Birger. Also found out today I have neuropathy in my legs and feet. Starts in the feet, goes all the way up my legs to my hips and it sucks. Not to mention I went to a concert yesterday and sat in ADA, but those chairs were not comfy! I'm having one of my worse #Fibromyalgia flairs today as the result, along with #Neuropathy

UPDATE
I now have a mental health coach who suggested I get outside on my patio several times a week. Funny how it never occurred to me before.
I had friends stop by this week + it definitely helped.
It has been 3 weeks since I suspected I was gluten intolerant. So many symptoms have gone or significantly reduced so I don’t want to eat gluten again.
I’m still struggling with my mental health so I need to stay off social media for now.
I suffer with chronic neuropathic pain, so this potential breakthrough excites me. It shows lots of promise. #Neuropathy #ChronicPain https://news.utexas.edu/2024/01/30/researchers-uncover-potential-non-opioid-treatment-for-chronic-pain/
My friend’s loss triggered my grief over my dad and grief brain took over for about a week.
I didn’t even know that was a thing.
My mental health is still on very shaky ground so I won’t be posting for now.
I discovered today while searching for something else that gluten intolerance could cause neuropathy, joint pain, as well as depression, anxiety, and brain fog. Going to see if being more restrictive with gluten will help.
from "These nettles are renowned for inflicting extremely painful stings that are characterized by acute electric shocklike, piercing, pricking and burning sensations lasting for many hours, followed by intermittent painful flares and allodynia that persists for days or even weeks."
Similarities to other types of neuropathic pain, including small fiber neuropathy and Long Covid associated neuropathy.

"These results provide important insights into the function of NaV channels in sensory neurons, identify TMEM233 as a previously unknown NaV1.7interacting protein, and describe the dispanins as bifunctional proteins that cause allosteric changes in channel gating upon binding of pain causing venom peptides."
~
Not finding much on TMEM233. Some dispanins are interferon activated.
review article from 2012:
- The Dispanins: A Novel Gene Family of Ancient Origin That Contains 14 Human Members
https://doi.org/10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0031961
"The IFITM1–3 proteins were identified 25 years ago as being upregulated by interferons (IFN) [6]. Recently they received considerable attentions as IFITM1–3 were found to prevent infection of a growing list of viruses such as HIV-1, SARS influenza A H1N1, West Nile and Dengue fever viruses [7], [8], [9], [10]. Hence, proteins of the IFITM family mediate part of the antiviral response orchestrated by IFNs. However, the IFITM family is also involved in other processes such as oncogenesis, bone mineralization (IFITM5) and germ cell development (IFITM1 and 3) and IFITM5 has not been identified as interferon-inducible [11], [12], [13], [14]. Although the biological roles of the IFITM genes are emerging, no thorough evolutionary analysis has been performed on this group.
In this study, we sought to infer the evolutionary history of the human IFITM genes and identify potential homologues. We mined 36 eukaryotic species, covering all major eukaryotic groups, and found that the IFITMs form a subfamily in a larger novel family that has ten human members in addition to the four IFITM genes. We propose Dispanins as a novel name for this family, which refers to their common 2TM structure. "
@ddp for example Singh and colleagues explain "the impaired EO2 [peak O2 extraction] observed in the current study was attributed primarily to reduced oxygen diffusion in the peripheral microcirculation, resulting in increased peak exercise mixed venous oxygen saturation and peak venous O2 content" other parts of breathing seem unaffected and they conclude its not down to deconditioning. Plus they link to similar effects in #MECFS #neuropathy via the small fibre cholinergic response. #LongCovid
