Is anyone using a #raspberrypi as a laptop replacement? I backed the Pilet project by @soulscircuit recently and I'm curious about the idea of a modular and affordable solution for mobile computing.

Building out my new Linux desktop. Made sure that the motherboard is Linux friendly. This puppy is going to be as Right to Repair friendly as I can make it. Using several recycled components from a previous computer. Plan to install Nobara 41.
I think. :-)
Výměna čerpadla v myčce po asi 5 letech: kvůli vykloktaný hřídelce, která není uložená v ložisku, ale v plastu, se mění celý díl včetně motoru. Spousta měděného vinutí a železa.
#Citronics if looking for following old #raspberryPi models:
- Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+
- Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
- Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Idk what they plan, but probably again some cool #upcycling project
This made my morning. Its another Collective problem - created by
#capitalism, shared by all consumers - but the solutions are only allowed (by law) to be individual (eg: different OS, learn to turn things off yourself, opt out) But no #rightorepair, community/not for profit services etc.

Fantastic to see manufacturers competing on what matters rather than pointless specs races most users can’t take advantage of!
Quite the proposition to have a $200 device with 6 years updates. Now make the battery user-serviceable!

Attention all custom ROM users and advocates for digital rights!
Google's Play Integrity is limiting access to certain functionalities and applications for those using custom operating systems. This is a direct attack on the open-source community and a step towards further consolidating Google's monopoly in the mobile ecosystem.
The European Commission is aware of the situation, but has deemed it a low priority: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/PETI-CM-757267_EN.pdf
It's time for us to take action and show Google and the EU how much we care about this issue!
Sign the petition now to stop Google from limiting access to custom ROMs: https://www.change.org/p/stop-google-from-limiting-custom-roms

Let's unite and fight for our right to use and develop custom operating systems!
I broke the bluetooth dongle of this fellow. It seems that it's not possible to get a new dongle.
I thought one could trust Microsoft on (and only on) mouses and keyboards. I was wrong, they still manage to say fu in this, as well.
So a perfectly fine keyboard is now garbage.

@splatt9990 @tanyatussing @nixCraft @pluralistic @elenaperez Oh... it actually is _way_ worse. Pretty much all your tech is in a state just waiting to do this kind-of-thing #rightorepair #opensource #nodrm
@gnuplusmatt @GotNothing @fatboy I’m good with an immutable as a gateway. Imagine a school district that invests in a company, say #system76 and uses #popos while asking S76 for support. That district has full #rightorepair, can easily have someone upgrade any and all desktop or laptop AND have a super stable l, gaming friendly distro.
I’m not advocating full Arch or age too for school districts but #fedora, #popos, #debian, heck…go #elementary if you want pre packaged simplicity.

Hmmm...
I don't think Amazon is the root cause here.
And it's certainly not the consumer's right to return things.
Rather it's the non existent life cycle management for a lot of products and/or that it's "not profitable" to restore some products to "as new" and to sell them again. So #rightorepair ?
We could talk about packaging tech too, but that's an obvious one that already gets lots of attention.
Happy to see more #rightorepair stuff like this and more vendors using #ifixit to provide parts to repair their stuff. Good job #logitech but still not happy with some of the other services you offer…
No wonder we have such a hard time with repairing stuff. Just think about repairing 1% of the items in an average US household
“The average American home has tripled in size in the past half-century, although families have become smaller. A household in the US contains, on average, 300,000 individual items — no wonder one in ten households rents a storage unit and one in four people with a garage say it is too full of stuff to house a car.” - Annie Lowrey, in The Climate Book
