This made my morning. Its another Collective problem - created by
#capitalism, shared by all consumers - but the solutions are only allowed (by law) to be individual (eg: different OS, learn to turn things off yourself, opt out) But no #rightorepair, community/not for profit services etc.

Halifax Examiner · ‘Number go up’: Ed Zitron chronicles the ‘rot economy’By Philip Moscovitch

📣 Attention all custom ROM users and advocates for digital rights! 📣

Google's Play Integrity is limiting access to certain functionalities and applications for those using custom operating systems. This is a direct attack on the open-source community and a step towards further consolidating Google's monopoly in the mobile ecosystem.

The European Commission is aware of the situation, but has deemed it a low priority: europarl.europa.eu/doceo/docum

It's time for us to take action and show Google and the EU how much we care about this issue! 💥

Sign the petition now to stop Google from limiting access to custom ROMs: change.org/p/stop-google-from-

Let's unite and fight for our right to use and develop custom operating systems! 💪

@gnuplusmatt @GotNothing @fatboy I’m good with an immutable as a gateway. Imagine a school district that invests in a company, say #system76 and uses #popos while asking S76 for support. That district has full #rightorepair, can easily have someone upgrade any and all desktop or laptop AND have a super stable l, gaming friendly distro.

I’m not advocating full Arch or age too for school districts but #fedora, #popos, #debian, heck…go #elementary if you want pre packaged simplicity.

Hmmm...

I don't think Amazon is the root cause here.

And it's certainly not the consumer's right to return things.

Rather it's the non existent life cycle management for a lot of products and/or that it's "not profitable" to restore some products to "as new" and to sell them again. So #rightorepair ?

We could talk about packaging tech too, but that's an obvious one that already gets lots of attention.

No wonder we have such a hard time with repairing stuff. Just think about repairing 1% of the items in an average US household

“The average American home has tripled in size in the past half-century, although families have become smaller. A household in the US contains, on average, 300,000 individual items — no wonder one in ten households rents a storage unit and one in four people with a garage say it is too full of stuff to house a car.”
