The Guardian · ‘A disaster for all of us’: US scientists describe impact of Trump cutsBy Nina Lakhani

In the For All Mankind timeline they'd be a season about nudging 3IATLAS into a Mars impact and kickstart the Terraforming.

In ours, Trump could be defunding the Martian satellites that could take a look at the interstellar visitor as it passes, because 'Fuck Science' is what the voters want apparently....

"The grant cancellations, Young concludes, "Arise from the NIH’s newly minted war against undefined concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion and gender identity, that has expanded to include vaccine hesitancy, COVID, influencing public opinion and climate change." The "undefined" aspect plays a key part in his reasoning. Referring to DEI, he writes, "No one has ever defined it to this Court—and this Court has asked multiple times." It's not defined in Trump's executive order that launched the "newly minted war," and Young found that administrators within the NIH issued multiple documents that attempted to define it, not all of which were consistent with each other, and in some cases seemed to use circular reasoning.

He also noted that the officials who sent these memos had a tendency to resign shortly afterward, writing, "it is not lost on the Court that oftentimes people vote with their feet."

Brian Allen: "Condoleezza Rice just went on Fox & Friends and dismantled Trump’s war on universities and scientific research. When even Bush’s Secretary of State is side-eyeing your assault on knowledge and education, you’ve officially crossed into uncharted stupidity. This isn’t left vs. right anymore; it’s reality vs. whatever paranoid fantasy TrumpWorld is cooking up next."

The New Republic · The MAGA War on Science Is Deadly—and It’s Just Getting StartedThe administration’s anti-science posture has three different sources. Each is as extremist as the last.

FACT : 100 years ago a Tennessee grand jury indicted science teacher John Scopes for violating the state’s law making it a crime “to teach any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals."

History repeats itself.

“The report draws on HELP Committee Minority Staff’s interviews with dozens of federal scientists, workers, and experts to explain how Trump officials are suppressing what scientists can say, controlling how scientists work together, and erasing scientific data.”
