WIRED · Minnesota Shooting Suspect Allegedly Used Data Broker Sites to Find Targets’ AddressesBy Lily Hay Newman

According to the forensic cell phone police officer testifying at Karen Read’s re-trial, #Apple has a database they allowed the police to just look at whenever they want. Those police officers could tell someone’s phone was in pocket mode and when it wasn’t.

According to some New Hampshire police back in 2018 they can freely access #Facebook messages. I didn’t ask details about this, I’m hoping that they at least have to have an open case with the case number to do this but I’m not sure about that. 15 years ago when I was a family law paralegal we would subpoena Facebook information and we rarely got it back before the case was over, so maybe that’s why they let the police just click into it and get what they want.

According to the New Hampshire police testifying against Adam Montgomery, they were unable to obtain messages from Facebook if both parties deleted them. But because the person he was messaging did not delete the messages Facebook could produce them for the trial.

This story about the airlines makes the random searching of our luggage even more suspicious and invasive. Are they logging what they find in our luggage and adding the size and brand of underwear I wear to the data they’re selling?

Hell No: The #ODNI Wants to Make it Easier for the Gov to Buy Your Data Without #Warrant

ODNI is attempting to create the Intelligence Community’s Data Consortium–a centralized online marketplace where law enforcement and #spy agencies can peruse & buy very personal digital data about you collected by #DataBrokers. Not only is this a massive escalation of the deeply unjust #DataBroker loophole: it’s also another repulsive signal that your #privacy means nothing to them
