Just finished "reading" (as an audiobook) "The Wager." It's about an 18th century shipwreck at the Drake Passage. I heard about it on NPR and thought it would make a good drive "read." I wound up listening to most of it while doing mindless chores around the house. It's an interesting saga of stupidity and blindly following orders with a dose of politics, imperialism, and white supremacy. It was an interesting look into the times. #IAmReading

"It's eat or be eaten"

"The Starving Saints" by Caitlin Starling wasn't what I expected it would be - but I still wasn't disappointed by this enticing, fast-paced, vivid story of false idols and (CW) cannibalism. The second half gets a bit too trippy for my taste and I feel it doesn't quite tie up all lose ends. But it's an exciting ride nevertheless. I also liked the narration of the audiobook. @bookstodon #WeekendRead #bookstodon #amreading #iamreading #frauenlesen

I am reading Dr. Fauci's autobiography. The preface is powerful -- he tells about the moment he got the results of the clinical trials and how he started to cry:

"The fact that they were projecting at least 90 percent effectiveness for the COVID vaccine was astonishing... This would be the ultimate game changer... Millions of lives would be saved."

Today, I'm reading the brand new graphic novel adaptation of THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS. It's very good. Gorgeous hardback cover and great artwork, just like THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER. I wish the lettering were not so small, cuz old.

I'm grateful that the Octavia Butler estate agreed to this.

I am thoroughly enjoying Wolfe Hall, by Hilary Mantel, despite - or maybe because? - one knows how it ends for the more well-known protagonists.
It's about the other Cromwell.

I started Dr Space Junk vs the Universe, by Alice Gorman, and its teaching me fascinating details about the space program.

I interrupted myself to start a new, and very different detective series.

Just started reading LUMINOUS, by Silvia Park. It is a literary fiction Sci Fi novel, set in a near future Unified Korea, where biotech has blurred the line between robot and human.

I find the premise intriguing, particularly the exploration of identity and agency. Just a couple chapters in so far.
