Also, being able to resize windows on #iPadOS from any edge when there are no window borders makes apps and website that have interaction near the edge borderline-unusable.

Gave in and installed the #iOS (well, #iPadOS) 26 public beta on my iPad mini. This is the flakiest public beta I've ever seen; I've had to hard reboot the device twice in 24 hours, a bunch of core apps (hi Photos) are crashtastic, and system performance is miserable even on this latest-generation decide. How is #Apple going to get this shippable in 9 weeks?

@tinker I recently switched many of my spreadsheets to #LibreOffice and have been very happy.

I frequently work remotely on my iPad, often without Internet access in my small, rural, state of #Vermont. It took some research to figure out that #CollaboraOffice is the #iPadOS (née #iOS) & #Android version, is free, and does NOT require #CollaboraOnline account service.

Works pretty well. I think I'd struggle using it on a phone without a physical keyboard, but that's me.

The wife won a brand new 11-inch iPad today at work. It's a nice pretty blue one with 128GB of storage.

She's letting me set it up now and play around with it. Oddly, I've never owned an iPad before, because I don't really have use for tablets in any way.

For #Apple, #CMA’s “second key priority area of focus is on #interoperability and ensuring #app developers have interoperable access to key functionality within #iOS and #iPadOS. Without the ability to access these enabling functions, #UK app developers cannot create the full range of innovative products and services that they would do otherwise, and UK consumers miss out as a result.” 👏 #DMCCA #DMA

For an #iPadOS26 example, here’s the best way I can find to get Split View based on Apple’s demo. Ignore the jank, that’s just beta stuff.

This also doesn’t work with a trackpad right now, so I’m using my finger on-screen to flick windows to the left and right.

Note: It’s a bunch of extra taps to get the 2nd app, full-screen it, swipe it over to one side, then get the original app. Also note how fiddly it is to take one of the apps full screen again. This is just bad.

Look at how perfect Split View and Slide Over were here in the previous iPadOS. **Look at it**

You cannot tell me that anyone who actually understood the strengths of the iPad and a touchscreen OS said “yep, let’s throw this out for 30-year-old clunky, fiddly, tedious Mac windowing conventions and tools because they’re better. People will *love* trying to tap microscopic stoplight buttons.”

You just can’t. Because you would objectively be lying and so are they.

I am honestly trying to understand how this is supposed to work. Because right now it seems like a bunch of pre-junior vibe coders walked into the iPad wing and poured a bunch of Everclear on the iPadOS source code and called it a day.

How is this in any way shape or form useful.

(Also ignore the apps on my Home Screen. I’m rearranging things)

Ok

Apparently the only way to be able to use apps with any kind of window mode in #iPadOS26 is to enable Stage Manager. I’ve never liked Stage Manager, the previous iteration was a giant waste of screen space. But fine.

So what is going on here? Why does Ivory hang off to the side when I minimize Inoreader? Why doesn’t it reappear when I switch to a different full-screen app? What on earth is the point of the Home Screen disappearing when I click it and Ivory slides back in?

Starting to wonder if the rumours about iPhones and iPads being usable in desktop mode might actually refer to the rumoured #iPhoneFold. Such a device could run a hybrid of #iOS and #iPadOS, and the additional functionality might help to justify the eye-watering price. #Apple #iPhone macrumors.com/2025/07/21/ios-2

Added language tags to the releases page as well today, which just leaves the series page. Tomorrow let's start drafting a new look for cours, starting with the web. See you then!
