Woopi Sikh temple (the smaller of the 2 !) where we had another free* lunch. It was hopping today, maybe coz school holidays, and of course delicious as always: as much dal, veg, rice, chapattis, yoghurt, pickle, and rice pudding as you can eat. Such lovely people. @LifeTimeCooking #Woolgoolga #Sikh

* free to all comers but of course donations welcome.

Watching a video about a Sikh temple that serves free meals any time of the day, sometimes to up to 100,000 people. The kitchen manager was showing off these huge stainless steel vats with mixing arms like a Kitchenaid stand mixer. He was so proud of how many people they could feed so quickly because of the machinery.

I don’t know anything about Sikhs, but if this dude is representative, they seem to have it figured out

"#Birmingham #Labour said the historic move would help the council understand its communities better and tackle discrimination.

It said that while #Sikhs and #Jews had been legally recognised as #ethnic groups for more than 40 years, they were largely absent from ethnicity data as it was not routinely collected by public bodies.

As the Office for National Statistics advises public bodies to only use existing ethnic categories in order to deliver public services, the Labour group argued #Jewish and #Sikh people were “rendered invisible” to policymakers.

If the motion passes, it would make Birmingham City Council the first local authority in #England to change the way that it collects ethnicity data."

"#MaryMiller, an Illinois representative, on Friday published – then deleted – a post on X saying that Giani Singh, a #Sikh Granthi from southern New Jersey, should not have delivered the House’s morning prayer.

Miller at first mistakenly identified Singh as a #Muslim and said that it was “deeply troubling” someone of that faith had been allowed to lead prayer in the House and it “should never have been allowed”, Miller posted on X."

Our #Sikh neighbours sent over a tray with #dinner for us!

A bowl of Yellow Dhal, a bowl of curried cauliflower, peas, potatoes, some chapati & a bowl of rice with cumin!

Delish!

We had already started eating before thinking to take a photo. Duh!

*edited to correct a spelling mistake.

I’ve been stuck in bed for a couple of days now.

My knees & back are unhappy again.

The better half & our lovely #Sikh neighbours have been feeding the #alpacas & #lambs while I’ve been sidelined.

I’m going to see how I go. Painkillers have been taken, walking stick is by the bed. I’ll go check on the woolly boys.
