For those of you interested in #linuxaudio and reading this you might also have heard of linuxdaw.org

A site giving an overview over quality audio software available for linux.

Not too long ago a user made a very nice contribution by setting up a mastadon bot that posts new additions (based on the RSS feed).

You can follow the bot here:
@linuxdaw
to get notified when apps are added.

Shoutout to @icaria36 for setting this up! Thanks buddy :)

This was my first decent, proper go at @ardour on #UbuntuStudio
...its just a dirge of effected guitar jamming through the Line 6 Helix. Now what is weird is how the Helix isnt class compliant (as far as I know) ..which means someone with the UbStu developers is using the Helix.

Anyway, nearly 7 minutes of me making a fool of myself on the Palm Bay.

I came across this new video about an open source synth that works on Linux:

UltraSynth
youtube.com/watch?v=AqvbxPD2JH

ryukau.github.io/VSTPlugins/ma

Then I checked the developers' website and... there is plenty of stuff there! I haven't tried anything but it seems they are not listed on LinuxDaw.

ryukau.github.io/VSTPlugins/in 🤯

Their blog looks hardcore dev, but I have no clue: ryukau.blogspot.com

Anyway, in case this is interesting to someone.

Big update on linuxdaw.org

User contribution is now easier than ever!

When mouse hovers over a plugin/app, an edit icon appears in the upper left corner. Press this takes you to a page where you can suggest edits to the data.

In the burger menu there is now a new item [Add plugin/app] which takes you to a page where you can suggest new plugins/apps.

Take a look at the attached screenshots.

Contributions are most welcome, don't be afraid :)

Cheers!

@tildesounds recently shared a list of favorite plugins.I went through it, checked which ones are Linux-compatible, and then which of those were missing in linuxdaw.org. And found these, in case you are interested:

filtrr - fx.amee.ee/plugin/filtrr/

Audiostellar - audiostellar.xyz/

Rolling Sample - birdsthings.com

Blockhead (ok, it's a private alpha) - patreon.com/colugomusic

@edsu Hi! I have volunteered to create a bot account to post linuxdaw.org RSS feed as toots. I see you have created github.com/edsu/feediverse and this question might sound odd but... is it good? 😂 I mean, is it stable?

Years ago I used #feed2toot and it was fine. I have also tried feedsin.space/ but we want to publish from our own account. Happy to try #feediverse but since you're here I thought I'd ask first. 🙏

A little update on linuxdaw.org

I've implemented support for multiple images pr. audio-app. So if you see a little "gallery-icon" (as indicated below with red arrows), it means there are more than one image.

Just press the image and navigate up/down to see others.

Hope you like it!

Just updated a little bunch of apps for now, but more will follow.

#Mixbus / #Ardour can only use #automation for bypassing a plugin, if that plugin has an internal #bypass function. Well, almost.

Here's a dirty trick / example: In order to bypass C*Spice, I go to the pin connections window of the plugin and create a second audio output for it.

The second audio output I connect to the input, so it is a bypass line.

The trick now is to use the ACE A/B switch *after* that plugin which will use the "stereo" signal as two different inputs A and B. In this case, A *with* C*Spice and B *without*.

The A/B switch can then be automated.

#DecentSampler is a bit too naggy concerning registration for an account but I must say, I'm having quite some fun – on #Linux.

As so often, I'm on that harmonic minor trip again.

Here's a little improv snippet with a Bontempi Chord Organ that sounds like much more than the original instrument, I think. (Free sample pack from the Decent Sampler repository.)

A friend of mine had such a drastic plastic thingie when I was a kid and we messed around with it a lot. Basically it is a boiled-down plastic accordion with an electrical blower in it.

EDIT: Listening to this again one hour later I started practicing using a metronome. *grrr*

So, talking #UbuntuStudio 24.04, preliminary result of migrating from Kubuntu 18.04 #Linux + #kxstudio overlays:

- #Pipewire 1.0.5 is included and way too old to be considered any good for professional audio. This is a general Problem with Ubuntu 24.04 and can be solved by using a PPA that gives you 1.2.7.

- Mixbus and Adour and Lightworks are working good (with Pipewire 1.2.7)

- All my WindowsVSTs still work via LinVST.

- Not working any more: IR.lv2 anywhere, can't find Dexed in any repository, Calf plugins are installed but not loading in Ardour.

[- Audacity crashes the entire audio system on my desktop machine, resulting in the need to reboot, while it works flawlessly on my laptop with the same system but different audio hardware. EDIT: Pipewire does not like my RME card. See thread.]

Would I recommend it? For nerds, yes. But then probably go for Ubuntu Studio 24.10 because Ubuntu 24.04 will probably never get any more recent Pipewire.

If not a Linux nerd, just get a Mac.

Today I optimized linuxdaw.org with a new image scheme.

Up until now I've downloaded an original image from the deveoper and made 2 smaller versions of it in the same format.

Now I make 3 copies and instead use the webp format (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP) which is much smaller and optimized.

The results in a faster and better site!

Big updates on linuxdaw.org !

Some new stuff I've been working on these past weeks..

[Collections]
You can now add apps/plugins to custom collections and if you want to - share with others!

[Ratings]
You can now rate apps/plugins to filter them/sort them.

[Menu]
I added a burger-menu to handle new stuff.

[User data]
User data is _only_ stored in the browser. It can be exported/shared through compressed URLs.

#linuxaudio #musicproduction #linuxdaw

Enjoy :)

Update on linuxdaw.org

Not long ago I added crawling functionality for making it easier to maintain versions and prices.

I can now also detect if there is a sale on a plugin if I've added some config to the plugin site.

And since #blackfriday is soon it would be nice to get an overview of this, so I added an experimental filter

linuxdaw.org/?sale

Only 12 plugins right now, but if you know of any more, please let me know and I will see if I can add automatically.
