There are now at least five or six #tadpole - turned - #frog s in the #paludarium (no adult salamanders on land yet, though), and more every day... They're soooo tiny that I'm afraid to feed them fruitflies yet, so I've just been adding springtails and catching ants outside 😅 it's so much easier to feed them when they're tadpoles content with water plants and detritus, heh.

What if we could get cane toads to destroy themselves? Find out how… ausgeo.co/peterpantadpoles

Researchers from Macquarie University have discovered that cane toad tadpoles are "enthusiastic cannibals" of cane toad eggs, and can wipe out entire clutches in waterbodies where they're released.

But what about when these tadpoles turn into toads and start breeding? Well, there is a solution for that too – and it is inspired by Peter Pan.

Various stages of development of Western Toads (Anaxyrus boreas) at Frog Lake, Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon. (Well, at least the first three are. The final picture may be a different frog or toad; I am terrible at telling the difference when they are in that stage.)

There were hundreds of these little toads hoping around in the mud and shallow water around the lake! They were so fun to watch.

Hotter springs and summers mean that ponds dry out faster, so what effect might this have on tadpoles and the frogs they develop into? Michel Ohmer & co found that tadpoles developing in drying ponds are smaller when they lose their tails and can't leap as far when adult

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #FlamingStar nebula (upper right with the star AE Auriga at its center) and the #Tadpole nebula (lower left) surround some bright colorful stars. The yellow star is a 3 star system that comprise 16 Auriga. The middle stars are 17 Auriga and IQ Auriga. The top stars are 18 Auriga and 19 Auriga. 17 Aur and IQ Aur are a "proper motion pair," moving through space together while the other objects just look like they are near each other but are not. #StillLearning
