For that, specifically, I can only recommend: If a mail provider refuses to conform to standard auth protocols, they're a lost cause, ditch that provider.

TIL that Google forbids to use FOSS client K9-Mail to be used with Gmail — they showing notification about "malicious software" and account "safety"
And that create passkey for GMail via the Librewolf/Gentoo is impossible too. Google writes what operationg system "insecure" and "browser not in support list like Chrome"
BTW, why Google forces me to buy Bluetooth dongle to "enable Bluetooth" on my PC box?

- Cuz I really want more people like @landley to point out the elephant in the room in that a lot of #OpenSource Software needs more #polish - similar to how @thunderbird got an #UI #overhaul and how they rather chose to absorb #K9mail than to do redundant work on #Android...

Also when one installs #Thunderbird for #Android, it offers importing settings from #K9Mail and that just works.
- So ideally one just installs Thunderbird, let it import settings from K9-Mail and then one's ready to roll.

@achadwick @timkrief @fdroidorg So it's exactly the same app with no changes except for the branding? If so, then I'll just switch over from #K9Mail to #Thunderbird rather sooner than later to be done with it.

@thunderbird it's really nostalgic to part with the robo-dog icon on home screen, but there's no better family for K-9 to get taken in by, hands down.
The bark notification sound will stay though.

Thunderbird for Android has reached beta testing, and you can grab it from the Google Play Store. A version should follow on the #FOSS F-Droid store soon.
Thunderbird for Android is not a ground-up new project but is based on the existing #K9Mail application, which is 15 years old: it débuted late in October 2008. I installed the beta, and it describes itself as version 8.0b2.
