#Scaleway's status page reports “Degraded Performance” for Object Storage for the past 24+ hours, which is a bit of an understatement. I've been trialing their service for #restic #backup, and did a test retrieval yesterday which just timed out. Downloading a 2 GB object via the web GUI is transferring at a rate of less than 1 Mb/s. This is from FR-PAR, on Standard class objects.

Nobody else having this issue?

I've decided to host backups on Cloudflare R2 instead.

Well, good news. I open a ticket with Scaleway, and everything is resolved. 😇

The theory I have is I actually opened my account January 2025, 3 months ago, but I did not use it. Now, 3 months later, I logged in, and started to secure my account, add all my important information, and this could have looked suspicious. Still, it had my worried for a moment.

As someone who has previously been a victim of ID Theft, it makes me really uncomfortable that a web hosting provider would ask so much information, to approve your account, approve it, and then quickly lock it before you could do anything. I currently have no services with Scaleway (or any previous services). This feels shady.

Scaleway, ask for payment information.

OK. Submit payment information.

Scaleway, ask you verify payment method.

OK. You log into your credit company, find the code.

Scaleway, ask you to verify your ID.

OK, you show both the front and back of your ID, then smile for the camera.

Scaleway: "We noticed unusual activities on your account. Create a support ticket to unlock your account."

Seriously?

@ben Nice. Re #Scaleway payment confirmation bentasker.co.uk/posts/blog/the , no need to worry. They inform you immediately if a payment fails and retry automatically later. You have multiple days to fix issues. I've never had any problems even though occasionally I had maxed out the payment method associated with my account.

Reduced the data on our S3 Bucket for this Mastodon instance from 1,20TB to just 213GB!!.

We ran into a bug with the configuration and our S3 provider (Scaleway), which broke "tootctl media remove-orphans" bacause the data was in a subdirectory of the Bucket.

Thanks to a GitHub issue from @Purple, I was able to move the data to the correct location with "aws s3 sync" and remove the orphans afterwards. Freeing up a ton of space (and reducing the mothly bill significantly).

The #Scaleway EM-RV1 OSes were patched several months ago. The default installation disables problematic instructions, and customers who installed their machines before have been contacted.

I'd like to thank the #CISPA researchers who contacted us in advance to help manage the problem before making it public.

#Platypush now has an APT repo! apt.platypush.tech/

`apt install platypush` is now finally a thing!

This will make the installation process easier on the RPi and other Debian-based systems.

My CI/CD pipelines so far were only spitting out an AUR build, but now we've also got some dear ol' .deb files automatically generated.

It's also my first experience with serving a static website completely through an S3-compatible bucket. Big kudos to the folks at #Scaleway for providing an alternative to AWS that is much cheaper and also EU-based.
