From @ricochet_en :
"Ten thousand flight attendants walked off the job at Air Canada, and for a day, the country glimpsed what it looks like when ordinary people defy both their employer and their government. The wildcat strike was illegal. It was also profoundly Canadian".

Ricochet · The Air Canada flight attendant strike was illegal. It was also profoundly CanadianCanada’s democracy depends on defiance, not obedience

This article lays out the sequence of events during the strike that I didn’t learn about in the ‘regular’ media. Canadian Jobs minister Patty Hadju: “I am exercising this authority because it is critical to maintaining and securing industrial peace, protecting Canadians and promoting conditions to resolve the dispute,” “Industrial peace?!”WTF! #capitalism #Labour #Union #unions #CUPE #AirCanada #cdnpoli #carney #UnionBusting #workers #WorkersRights #billionaires #united

Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu and the rest of the Carney government are profoundly anti-worker. And where has the NDP been while this has been going on?

“But the use of Section 107 strips unions of their power to reach a fair deal at the table, McGowan said. He said without the threat of a strike, employers have no motivation to bargain in good faith. ’The only power that workers have is to withdraw their labour,’ he said. ’If you take that away from them, the workers have no real leverage.’ He joins the Canada Labour Congress in calling for Prime Minister Mark Carney to cease the use of Section 107 to end strikes and cut it from the labour code when Parliament resumes. ’By giving the minister the unilateral right to break strikes and send workers back to work against their will, the minister and the government are making a mockery of the collective bargaining process,’ McGowan said.”

With the recent #AirCanada - #CUPE dispute, I've been studying Section 107 which allows the minister to direct the labour board "to maintain or secure industrial peace".
Baffling that the minister somehow thought a back to work order would secure "labour peace". Like, the good little workers will just do as their told and return to work.

Air Canada Flight Attendants expose flaw in Canadian labour law, AND teach Canadian government about negotiation.

By refusing and defying the federal illegal back to work order, Flight Attendants have signed a Tentative Agreement with Air Canada.

I hope their lesson in Canadian labour law has taught not just the Carney government but all future Canadian and Provincial governments, workers are tired of you breaking the constitution to harm workers.

I am relieved that Air Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees have reached a tentative agreement early this morning.

It is my hope that this will ensure flight attendants are compensated fairly at all times, while ending disruption for hundreds of thousands of Canadian families, workers, and visitors to Canada.
