But he did ride it on the first day it was in Maryland. After all, he had a season pass to the park. </p><p>He clearly remembers his first ride, saying the roughly 100-foot initial drop delivered a jolt of g-force, followed by a rush of nonstop speed. Riders are lifted from their seats on the two hills, catching bursts of airtime. As the ride seems to settle, it suddenly jerks into a sharp turn, tossing you side to side.</p><p>"It was quite a violent ride," Marks said. Juliet Merida, Dum Tran Elf 🏳️⚧️<p><span>The coaster wheel project is complete (for now)!<br><br>The wheel is out of the vinegar and got another good scrub with soap and water before getting dried and oiled a little bit.<br><br>Any rust that's visible is flash rust- which formed after treatment while it was still a little wet with water. Pretty hard to avoid any rust.<br><br>I'm super, duper, incredibly happy with how it turned out. Even the rust on the grease port has been cleared. Most of the iron oxide (the black dust) was removed in the vinegar soak and with a soapy scrub.<br><br>The very last thing I plan to do is to give it a little bit of a polish. But here it is, all cleaned up!<br><br>I do wish the smooth coating was more intact but this is the wheel I have to work with unless someone at Holiday World reads this and wants to send me a new one! ;)<br><br>If I ever get around to trying to polish this thing up I will definitely share pics of it. Until then, that's it for this restoration. It was a lot of fun and I'm super happy with it. It's still going to go back in the tank later, but damn, I'm happy with the progress.<br><br>You can see some of the smooth coating (teflon?) on the road surface of the wheel is still intact. This is why I didn't want to sandblast or brush it. I love scuba diving, amusement parks, especially <a href="https://beige.party/tags/rollercoasters" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rollercoasters</span></a>. Back in the day, I was co-contributor of The World of Coasters and had some fun contributions to NPR, CNN, American Heritage.</p><p>After Covid set in things changed. I don't get out much and managed to stay free of it. I plan on keeping it that way. If one is to be stuck at home, San Juan County is a damn fine place to do it.</p>
